Small But Powerful
Compact Radar for Smaller Craft
Innovative electronics which meet the needs of the marine market have been the hallmark of manufacturer Simrad from many years and more recently innovations in radar have been a regular feature of the company's new products. This year, to meet the needs of the smaller boat owner, Simrad has developed a full color radar with a 7" flat screen developed from the advanced technology already built into other radars in the Simrad range. In its most compact form the RA30, coupled with a new, light weight 2Kw, 1.5' radome antenna, provides a powerful 24nm range displayed in full colour clarity. The RA30 Radar is ideal for yachts and powerboats and has the sophistication and functionality to be also invaluable aboard a commercial workboat or fishing vessel where space in the wheelhouse is at a premium.
An Off-Center facility allows the center of the display to be moved. This provides more radar picture ahead of the vessel, which is particularly important for fast boats where the maximum view ahead is required for safety. A 3' or 4' open scanner can be used for these vessels with fast update and extending the maximum range to 48nm. A 2' radome can be used for larger sailing craft to avoid snagging in sails or rigging, this also provides a fast update and a 36nm range.
Originally developed for the larger Simrad radars, a Semi-3D presentation has also been included on the RA30. This has proved to be a popular feature and ideal for entering harbors or narrow passages, the 3D display can be easily compared to the chartplotter for confirmation of position and obstacles identified.
The Echo Tracking feature indicates the motion of radar targets in relation to own vessel, while the Night Display reduces light emission from the screen, which saves night vision and accentuates the targets.
The Simrad RA30 is exceptionally easy to use and has been designed with 3 auto settings to make it even easier. These settings give optimum tunings for use in harbor, or short or long range. The auto settings avoid the complex adjustments that are often needed for best performance in changing conditions.
The new RA30 has been introduced by Simrad as a compact, competitively priced radar to suit the smaller boat owner who requires the latest in radar technology from one of the world's leading manufacturers.
